Five Tips for Hanging on to that Holiday Feeling…

1. As soon as you get back, book your next holiday – most people struggle with the first few weeks back. It can seem like the whole year is in front of you with the next festive season miles away. Booking your next holiday each time you come back is a great discipline – it ensures you’ll take it, and can make another break feel closer, more achievable.

2. Continue to ‘play’, at least once a week – most of us use our holidays to pick up old hobbies, read a book or play games with our children…we focus on having fun. We often abandon all of these activities the moment we return to work. Try keeping at least one going a while longer.

3. Make the effort to keep spending time in nature a walk, a swim, a lunchtime run, a sunset, a park…it doesn’t take much. Nature plays a bit part in the holidays of most of us, and it is so refreshing. Continuing to spend time in nature’s settings really helps hold onto that healthy sense of perspective you gained on holiday.

4. Take short, regular breaks during the day – working or sitting in just one space for a whole day can be a real shock for our bodies coming back to the office, the warehouse or the shop floor. So manage the day with short breaks, it will be easier on your body and you’ll also find you're able to focus better when you’re back at the desk, on the pc, or talking with customer.

5. And finally, consider using half days as part of your leave – if you're able to take half-days in your workplace, these can be a great strategy for managing limited leave and making a return to work easier. A week’s leave can become two week’s worth of half days and so on. Taking a few half days on your first week back really lessens the pressure and it just feels like a lot less to cope with.

These are some of our practices, feel free to let us know any others that work for you.

In the meantime, we wish you all the best for the year ahead...
